Claremont Entertainment and Recreation Being the bustling city that it is, Claremont has many opportunities for entertainment and recreation. There are art and cultural attractions, theater, musical performances, museums, excellent restaurants, gardens and a local golf course. Mabel Shaw Bridges Auditorium & Avery Auditorium One of Southern California’s most photographed buildings, the Mabel Shaw Bridges Auditorium, can be found in Claremont at Claremont College. The hall was designed to host performing arts, especially music, and boasts a magnificent ceiling painted with stars. The Avery Auditorium, also found at Claremont College, is an outstanding lecture hall for world-class speakers. Art & Evening Entertainment For those who appreciate art, the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery at Scripps College features some amazing work. Admission is free, and guided tours are available. The Claremont Museum of Art also has some excellent collections and exhibits from the past and contemporary art. Admission is $3.00 for adults and free for kids. The Candlelight Pavilion Dinner Theater offers guests the chance to enjoy a delicious dinner and catch a Broadway style theater show. For those looking for a place to host banquets or events, the Padua Hills Theater is an excellent option. Wedding receptions are their specialty. One of Claremont’s trademark landmarks is the Claremont Old School House, a historic building that used to house the Claremont High School and is currently being remodeled to include a bevy of shops and a couple of restaurants. Claremont Parks, Recreation & Restaurants During the summer months, Memorial Park is host to the annual Concerts in the Park, put on by the local Kiwanis Club. Musical performances take place on Monday nights, and are free. People can bring their own food or buy from the concession stands. Speaking of food, Claremont offers a number of fine dining establishments to satisfy your appetite. Tutti Mangia and Bucca Di Beppo are two local favorites for ethnic food. There are also several other great parks that provide recreation for the citizens of Claremont. Blaisdell Park, located in the southeast part of the city, is home to the Blaisdell Community Building that caters to local seniors. This 7.5 acre park also has a playground, tennis courts, and group picnic facilities. Cahuilla Park, found in the western section of town north of Claremont High School, contains the local Youth Activity Center (YAC) and Taylor Hall. The Claremont Little League plays at College Park, which is also home to Pooch Park, a place where dogs are allowed to run free. Those looking for recreation that is a bit more adventurous can check out the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park at the north end of the city. This wilderness preserve offers 1,600 acres of hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Plant lovers will be interested in checking out the Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Gardens. These gardens were established to conserve the incredible array of flora found in California. Golfers will want to give the Claremont Golf Course a shot for sure. This 9-hole executive golf course features beautiful greens and the majestic Mount Baldy in the background. As you can easily tell, Claremont will keep you busy day and night.
